One of my greatest pleasures is traveling to typical honeymoon destinations as solo traveler. I’ve had the honor of traveling to Hawaii, French Polynesia, Dominican Republic, and even luxurious Florida. So, when I was invited to Saint Lucia for a three-day trip, I was ready to take on the challenge to represent one of the most notorious honeymoon destinations in the Caribbean as a perfect solo getaway retreat. If you’re wondering why to solo travel to Saint Lucia, let me be here to convince you.
Why Saint Lucia
With so many destinations to choose from, why visit Saint Lucia, and better yet, why visit Saint Lucia alone? Saint Lucia is a naturally stunning island, with its most famed site being the UNESCO World Heritage Piton Mountains. Their dramatic double peak creates a naturally gorgeous backdrop to both embrace and photograph. Saint Lucia has both French and English influence due to their history, giving the entire island colonial charm. It’s relatively affordable, the food is out-of-this-world fresh and delicious, and it’s a quick haul from mainland USA.
Where To Stay
I have been fortunate enough to stay in hotels all around the world, and I don’t say it lightly that one of my absolute favorite accommodation experiences was in Saint Lucia. At Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort, every room is ocean-view, so you’ll wake up to dramatic views overlooking the blue Caribbean Sea. Many of the rooms have a private pool, including the one I stayed in, so if you want to start your morning off by sipping your coffee in your own private pool in your own private villa, Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort is the place to do it.
Private villas and private pools aside, Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort recently underwent a $12 million renovation. The entire property has a chic, clean aesthetic, and the excellent cuisine options on site makes for the convenience of never having to leave the resort. Definitely don’t skip out on the spa, either.
What To Do
Saint Lucia is known to be one of the most beautiful Caribbean islands which is why it makes for such a honeymoon hotspot. I was surprised by how much there is to do, but my favorite activities in my time there were:
- Riding a boat up close and personal to the Piton Mountains
- Taking a natural mud bath in the sulphur hot springs in the world’s only drive-in volcano, located in Soufriere
- Chocolate and rum tasting, where generous pours of local Chairman’s Reserve were had
- Visiting Piton Waterfalls on a private tour
- Snorkeling in the sea, and next time, I would definitely go diving
I did not have the chance to hike the Pitons, but that’s a very popular thing to do in Saint Lucia, and one that I hear can be treacherous, but is well worth those stunning views.
The Serene Atmosphere
If you’re looking for a place to get away from it all, to somewhere serene, with sunsets so peaceful that they might bring tears to your eyes (like they did for me), Saint Lucia is it. Of course, it helps to stay at the comfort of a nice resort like Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort, because you’ll simply have no choice but to kick back and relax. I was surprised by the Mediterranean vibes of Saint Lucia; it has Positano and Santorini vibes which I was certainly not expecting in the Caribbean. It’s a unique island that I felt was vastly different from other Caribbean islands I’ve visited, most notably, because it felt much more secluded and less touristic than the Bahamas, Aruba, Jamaica, or Dominican Republic. Not to say there’s nothing wrong with a touristic getaway, but if you’re looking for pure and utter serenity, Saint Lucia is the place to go.
Overall
So, is a solo trip to the notorious honeymoon destination of Saint Lucia worth it? Yes! Saint Lucia is one of the most beautiful countries I have ever been to, and I would have never gotten to enjoy it had I waited around for someone to join me.
