If you’re visiting New York City, it’s likely you’ve considered staying in, or at least near, Times Square. Times Square is a notoriously popular neighborhood of NYC, and it’s a landmark destination for visitors all around the globe. The problem with Times Square is that since it’s so popular, hotels in the area can often be overpriced with poor quality. If you want to stay in the heart of the city without sacrificing comfortable beds and high-quality amenities, check out one of these 10 hotels for the best experience.
1. Henn Na Hotel New York
Not only one of my favorite hotels near Times Square, but one of my favorite hotels in New York, is Japanese-themed Henn Na Hotel. Henn Na Hotel has a dinosaur at the front of the lobby to greet guests as they arrive, and the rooms are spacious with top-notch amenities, a rarity for this part of town. There are even bidets and closets that steam clothes in each room. When I stayed here, my room came with a private balcony, which made for peaceful mornings sipping my coffee before getting busy working at the desk that came in my room (this is a great hotel if you have to get a little bit of work done). Rooms aside, the restaurant on-site, Gosuke-Akimitsu, is such an exact replica of the style of restaurant found right in Japan, which I’d know personally since I lived in Tokyo, and in true Japanese fashion, the hospitality was above and beyond, and the seafood was as fresh as ever.

DISCLAIMER: Henn Na Hotel covered my stay for one night as well as a meal at Gotsuke.
2. W New York – Times Square
If you want to stay right in the middle of the action, the best hotel option right in the heart of Times Square is W New York – Times Square. Not only is this hotel pet-friendly, but it has some great eateries and bars located directly inside. The Living Room is a perfect refuge for a stiff drink after a long day of exploring The Big Apple. It’s also directly connected to Dos Caminos which makes one of the best margaritas in New York. I personally love the pops of pink throughout the hotel, adding to the overall aesthetic (and it doesn’t hurt for photos, either!).

3. Kimpton Hotel Eventi
For those looking for more of an experience than just a hotel, check out Kimpton Hotel Eventi, located about a 10-15 minute walk from Times Square. The hotel offers “Stay Human” experiences, where guests can partake in making their own rugs at Go Tufting NYC (located in nearby Long Island City, Queens), a night of drunk Shakespeare, and even an interactive art experience at nearby Unorthodox. The location of Kimpton Hotel Eventi is perfect for those who want to be close to the hustle and bustle, but not directly in it.
- Address: 851 6th Ave, New York, NY 10001
4. New York Marriott Marquis
I’m a little biased toward New York Marriott Marquis because it’s where my mom used to stay when she visited New York, back when my apartment was too small to host anyone in my non-existent living room. Now, my mom stays with me, but I’ve spent many nights with her in New York Marriott Marquis. Located right in the heart of Times Square, New York Marriott Marquis is a great place to be situated right in the middle of the action. Better yet, they have recently launched Le Petit Chef, an immersive 3D dining experience, which is so popular that it’s popping up throughout different hotels around the country (Four Seasons Hotel Austin, JW Marriott Washington D.C., Fairmont Chicago, to name a few). Le Petit Chef takes the dining experience to the next level, with a team of Hollywood writers with credits of The Simpsons, King of Queens and Young Sheldon, Academy Award Performing musicians and the most elite animators in the world. In New York, New York Marriott Marquis is one of the only hotels that offers this unique addition.

5. Hyatt Place Chelsea
Not necessarily located in Times Square, but not too far from it is Hyatt Place Chelsea. This hotel opened in December 2021 and offers 510 guest rooms which are aimed to replicate the vibrant atmosphere of Chelsea. I personally love Hyatt hotels and have never had a bad stay. The location here is perfect; it’s just a short walk to Hudson Yards, the High Line, Madison Square Garden, and of course, Times Square.

6. The Chatwal
Bringing you back in time ever so slightly, the Chatwal is a landmark hotel with a fascinating history. Originally built in 1905, this landmark building was “reimagined, restored, and relaunched” in 2010. With only 76 rooms and 29 of them being suites, the Chatwal offers a more intimate experience than most other New York hotels, especially those that are in Times Square. Chicly designed with hues of amber and burgundy, the hotel lobby feels like, and is, stepping outside of the chaotically bright lights of New York City and into a peaceful, calm, serene setting.

7. The Knickerbocker
Easily one of the most famous hotels in not only Times Square, but all of New York, is The Knickerbocker. If you want to stay central, well, this is it, baby. The Knickerbocker actually has “Times Square” in it’s address, so have no confusion about where in New York you’ll be. With restaurants run by Master Chef Charlie Palmer, it’s safe to say you’ll be dodging the nearby Olive Garden and Margaritaville for something of a bit higher quality. Don’t miss out on heading to their rooftop for views that can even make a stubborn New Yorker like me find some beauty in Times Square.

8. Lotte New York Palace
If you’re visiting New York around the holidays, which you should due to how Instagrammable NYC is at Christmastime, you should prioritize staying at a hotel with decked-out Christmas decor. Nowhere in New York does it better than Lotte New York Palace. Their tree went viral a few years ago on Instagram, and each year, they manage to top the year before. This hotel feels tucked away cozily despite being in the heart of the city. Find out why it’s gained such popularity in recent years, and treat yourself to one of the most sought-after hotels in the city.

9. Sofitel New York
Sofitel properties all over the world always mean that guests are going to have a high quality and luxe experience. Sofitel New York is no different. Located just a short jaunt from both Times Square and Bryant Park, this hotel surprisingly has quite large rooms, a rarity for the area. There’s a French restaurant located on site, Gaby Brasserie Française, which offers drinks, breakfast, and dinner. Sofitel New York is also pet-friendly, making traveling with a furry friend easier than ever.
- Address: 45 W 44th St, New York, NY 10036

10. The Algonquin Hotel
Last but certainly not least is one of the most luxurious properties not only in Times Square, but in all of New York: the Algonquin Hotel. Opened in 1902, this historic hotel’s original rooms ran as low as $2, but after a $5 million renovation in 2012, the hotel now has 181 guest rooms, with a wide-range of price tags (though, sorry to say, that $2 room no longer exists!). The Algonquin Hotel is also home to The Blue Bar, a classy cocktail bar/restaurant with timeless bites and libations.
